1 min read

Police Commissioner Rob Robinson will be opening the South Pacific Chiefs of Police Secretariat (SPCPC) office on Monday 13 December at 12.30pm. The SPCPC Secretariat office is on the ground floor at 180 Molesworth Street in Wellington.

Commander Sinilau Kolokihakaufisi from Tonga; members of the Australian Federal Police; and representatives from MFAT; NZ Aid and the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs will be attending the opening.

Background
The aim of the organisation is to foster cooperation and to share information and experience among police administrators in order to combat criminal activities and continuously improve standards within the policing profession throughout the Pacific region.

It is the oldest of the Pacific law enforcement bodies, founded in 1970. It now comprises 21 members covering all of the Pacific from the far north-west in Palau right across the Pacific and out to French Polynesia in the south-east. New Zealand became a member in 1972. Within member countries and territories, there are some 80,000 serving police officers, which makes it the largest law enforcement organisation in the region.

The head of Police for the country hosting the annual conference holds the office of Chairman until the following conference and New Zealand Police provides the Secretariat.
