A home-invasion victim has been left with facial injuries after being bashed and tied up in her Mt Wellington home this morning.
The 50 year-old woman was at home with her daughter and the daughter’s friend when, at about 6.30am, the younger woman heard a noise outside and went to investigate.
She discovered a man wearing a balaclava and dark clothes and, screaming, ran back inside. He followed her and instructed her to get down on the floor and give him money.
He has then assaulted the young woman’s mother by punching her about the head before tying the two women up with what’s thought to be a vacuum cleaner cord and some masking tape.
He left the home with the mother’s handbag. At this stage it’s not clear how much money the bag contained or what else was in it.
Police were called shortly after 6.30am from a neighbouring property by the young woman’s boyfriend who had fled from the house when he heard the attack.
Police dogs tracked the offender to Penrose Rd but were unable to detect him.
Auckland City Crime Squad are appealing to anyone who saw a balaclava-clad man wearing dark clothes in the area around Gunson Rd and Penrose Rd between 6.15 and 7am to contact them at Auckland Central Station, ph 302 6400.
