The hikoi moved over Auckland Bridge around midday today without significant incident said Acting North Shore District Commander Superintendent Dick Trimble.
Superintendent Trimble said he would like to thank the people of Auckland for their patience and co-operation that ensured a smooth, incident free march.
There were two minor non-injury vehicle crashes just before changing the lanes configuration for the march. This caused a slight delay to the lane change.
There was minimal disruption to traffic although motorists slowing down to look at the marchers caused traffic flows to move more slowly.
Advice was sought from Transit engineers throughout the operation as to the progression of the marchers and the structural safety of the bridge.
Superintendent Trimble said the success of the operation could not have been achieved without the support and co-operation of Transit New Zealand and their contractors. The placement of lane barriers to ensure the safety of both the marchers and bridge users and access to the Bridge control room to oversee the march greatly assisted Police.
