The body of 13-year old Molid Sheikh Mohamed, found in an industrial area of Mt Roskill this morning, will be released to his family for burial today.
Molid was a Moslem and it is customary that Moslem’s bury their dead within 24 hours of death occurring.
Detective Senior Sergeant John Tims said the preliminary results from the post-mortem examination carried out this afternoon showed Molid died after sustaining head injuries.
"We believe he fell from the top of a large container at the site, but we don’t know whether he was in the area alone or with others at the time of his fall," Mr Tims said.
"It’s quite possible he was with friends or associates and, if that’s the case, we’d like to speak to them. We’re investigating his death on behalf of the Coroner and obviously need as much information as possible in order to satisfy all the questions his sudden death throws up."
Mr Tims said it would be premature to categorise Molid’s death as suspicious or not but that, at this stage, some of the circumstances around it were unexplained.
