There’s a new star on top of the Christmas tree at Avondale, where staff have been impressed to see a member of the leadership team well and truly leading from the front.
Auckland City West Area Prevention Manager Inspector Wayne ‘Kitch’ Kitcher leapt into action recently to chase down a fleeing driver who was trying to outrun Tactical Crime Unit (TCU) staff.
The driver made the mistake of running down the first driveway on Walsall Street, which is directly opposite Avondale Police Station.
“Kitch didn’t hesitate and he was BAS’d up and out of the station in a flash,” says a station insider. “He and Sergeant Gaz Philson took the offender into custody moments later. Great work, commitment and athleticism!”
But wait, there’s more…
A few days later Kitch was at it again … an unknown male was walking around an address knocking on doors and windows. The occupier asked him to leave but he returned soon after and police were called.
Kitch was first on the scene, with the offender still on the property. The male resisted arrest so Kitch made a brief tactical withdrawal before deploying his OC spray. The offender succumbed and was arrested.
“West Area staff acknowledged their Prevention Manager’s efforts by adorning the station Christmas tree with his image,” says the insider. “Nice work, Boss.”
