Report it and get back to summer

A national campaign is highlighting the fact that reporting something to Police is now easier than ever.

The campaign encourages members of the public to use the 105 online service to report non-emergency matters.

“It’s so simple - it can be as simple as spending a few minutes filling out an online form, then you can get back to your summer,” says Rachael Bambery, National Manager Service.

The 105 online service and non-emergency phone number were launched last year to increase the number of ways members of the public can access police services, and to relieve pressure on the 111 emergency lines.

The online service has been refined, with one generic all-purpose form now available for reporting any non-emergency matter.

“We want to hear from people when they need us and we want to ensure they can reach us through the most appropriate and convenient channel,” says Rachael.

The Christmas/summer period is peak period for people calling Police, with call volumes increasing significantly.

Many calls year-round are from people seeking advice – so the campaign also seeks to encourage people to check the Police website to see if they can find what they need to know without picking up the phone.

The campaign is using billboards in holiday, travel and leisure areas, along with radio and online advertising.

“The public awareness of the 105 phone line has been awesome,” says Rachael. “We want people to know that in a non-emergency they can access our services very simply online as well at 105.police.govt.nz.”
