Inspired by the Humans of New York photoblog, we’re showcasing some of the incredible stories and experience of people throughout our organisation.
Jess, Social Media Manager
I was hesitant about sharing myself on here given everybody compliments me (us) daily on my nice #dadjoke, or takes digs at the “millennial tween” in charge of the police social media! I was starting to enjoy the mysterious aspect of my job but the cat’s (or floof’s) out of the bag now!
I’m a mum of two and when I am not making memes, engaging with our communities, or reading messages (which are good and bad), I really enjoy photography – hence this series, being able to combine two of my passions.
I am the Social Media Manager at New Zealand Police. I have led the Police social media response to major events such as the March 15 terrorist attack, the eruption of Whakaari/White Island and Covid-19.
As well as ensuring the public are kept informed, I have created a human voice for New Zealand Police.
I am known for my humorous content, pushing the boundaries and setting up many a viral meme. My introduction of #fridayfloof continues to be a fan favourite.
I’ve been with Police for almost four years and I love it. No two days are the same. I occasionally refer to myself as a digital responder because sometimes things break on social media and we need to react quickly. We see and read some awful things but knowing we can play a part in stopping harm or getting somebody the help they need is extremely fulfilling.
