Northland Police have arrested and charged a male in connection with the death of a man in Morningside on Monday evening.
Police making enquiries overnight located a 50-year-old male this morning where he was taken into custody without incident.
He has been charged with murder and threatens to kill and is due to appear in the Whangārei District Court this afternoon.
Detective Inspector Bridget Doell, Northland CIB, says it is understood the victim and the man charged were known to each other.
“As such, we are not currently seeking anyone else in relation to this matter.”
A number of enquiries are still yet to be completed and the community can expect to see Police in the area while these are carried out.
Detective Inspector Doell says she is proud of the swift action Police have taken overnight.
“While at the centre of this investigation is a tragic incident, we are pleased to have been able to bring a quick resolution to the victim’s grieving whānau.
“We hope this also brings reassurance to the community who will be concerned today.”
Police will endeavour to provide further details around the identity of the victim when we are in a position to do so.
However, as this matter is now before the Court, we are limited in providing further comment.
