As part of the first National Police Open Day, Wellington Central Police station and the Wellington Maritime Unit will be opening their doors to the public from 10.00am to 2.00pm on Saturday 14 June.
Acting Wellington District Commander Inspector Chris Scahill says "We are inviting the public to come in the door and see how we do things now. Many people never get to see the inner workings of a Police station and may not have seen the new tools and technology we use."
"We want people to not only be safe, but feel safe too. What better way to help achieve that than by giving people the opportunity to see how we prevent crime and reduce offending first hand."
"There will also be plenty of opportunities for the kids to meet a Police dog, have their photo taken in a patrol car and see inside the cells."
"We know a lot of people are keen to see the inside of the Lady Elizabeth IV so they are also planning on running tours too, unless they have to respond to a rescue."
Wellington Central Police Station (41 Victoria Street) and the Wellington Maritime Unit (Old Ferry Building, Waterloo Quay service jetty) will begin tours from 10.00am, no booking is required and it is free.
