Wellington Burglar

Wellington Police are trying to identify this man after a spike in burglaries over the past week.

Detective Sergeant Richard GIBSON says there have been eight burglaries to small businesses in the Wellington CBD, where the offender has gained entry by forcing open the front door and stealing cash from the till.

The man is seen breaking into a business on Lambton Quay and taking cash from the till and over $10,000 in collectable bank notes just after 6pm on 26 November 2015.

The man is described as Maori, 35 - 45 years old who is well dressed with a receding hairline. He possibly has a piece of lighter hair on the top left hand side of his head. The same man entered the store as a "customer" in the days leading up to the burglary.

Although the image is not clear, Police are hoping it may be enough for someone to recognise the man.

To minimise the risk of becoming victims Police are encouraging businesses to secure cash off site at the end of each business day.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Richard Gibson of the Wellington Tactical Crime Unit on (04) 381 2000. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
