Canterbury Police SAR can confirm that the New Zealand Police National Dive Team returned to shore at around 1pm today after weather conditions made it unsafe for them to continue the underwater search this afternoon.
The team of five Police Divers did manage to complete two underwater searches starting from the last known position of the missing diver. The divers describe the underwater visibility asbeing no more than 1m.
Canterbury Police SAR hope to continue the underwater search tomorrow if the weather improves.
No further update will be provided today.
