At approximately 3pm on Sunday afternoon emergency services were called to an address in Washdyke where a three-year-old boy was reportedly injured when a log rolled onto him at an industrial site.
The pre-schooler has subsequently died as a result of his injuries.
Police and WorkSafe NZ are completing an investigation into the incident.
No further details will be released at this stage.
