Police have arrested a wanted man this morning in relation to a serious assault against two Korean fishermen at the Ti Point Wharf in Rodney at Easter.
The 37 year-old man had been on the run for some time and was actively evading Police. There were warrants for his arrest on charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Police arrested and charged a 34 year-old man soon after the incident occurred but efforts to find the second alleged offender had been ongoing for several months.
This morning Taumaranui Police received information that he was at a local address. Officers from the Taumaranui Police went and apprehended the man and he was arrested without incident.
“This was a very nasty assault which shocked members of the Rodney community. This man had connections in parts of the Upper North Island and despite our best efforts, had managed to get away from us until this morning. Thanks to some good work by our colleagues in Taumaranui he’s now been arrested. We’ve spoken to the victims this afternoon to tell them the news and they are both very relieved” says Det Snr Sgt Megan Goldie, Waitemata Police.
Detectives from Rodney Police have travelled to Waikato this morning to speak to the arrested man. He will appear in the Hamilton District Court tomorrow morning.
