Waitemata Police have joined Twitter. The @WaitemataPolice twitter feed will primarily be used to distribute news and information to the public, but may also be used during significant events to notify media about developments, for example, when a press conference will be held.
@WaitemataPolice will not be monitored 24/7. Anyone who wants to report a crime or emergency should still telephone Police.
@WaitemataPolice will also involve officers from the Maori, Pacific and Ethnic services team, to tweet in several different languages.
"Social media is a fantastic way of communicating with our large, diverse community. We have officers who speak Samoan, Tongan, Tuvaluan, Mandarin, Afrikaans, Te Reo Maori and Hindi and we're looking forward to engaging online with people throughout Waitemata" says Inspector Willi Fanene, Maori, Pacific & Ethnic Services, Waitemata Police.
