Auckland Police can now release the name of the man who died in a Waiheke Island boat fire on Monday night. He was David Hargreaves Brady, aged 67, from Waiheke Island.
Mr Brady’s next of kin have been notified and are naturally upset. Victim Support has been provided.
The findings of the Post Mortem examination will be referred to the Coroner.
Police have continued to interview local residents today and the examination of the boat has now been completed.
Detective Inspector Scott Beard says that although the investigation has advanced considerably today, Police are still not in a position to determine the cause of the fire until all forensic testing has been completed along with further witness interviews.
“We are conducting a thorough investigation and wish to reassure local residents that we are doing all we can to determine the cause of the fire.”
The second man injured in the fire remains in Middlemore Hospital and has been able to speak with police.
Police are asking for anyone who has been on board the "Countess" in recent weeks to contact local Waiheke Police on (09) 372 1150.
