Police can now name the victim of a fatal fire near Mt Alexander at approximately 3.40pm yesterday (15 October 2014) afternoon as 71 year old Denis Luke HAZLETT from Ohoka. The death has been referred to the Coroner.
He was assisting two other men at a rural Hurunui property with a controlled scrub burn-off on a steep gully. Victim Support are working with the men and the victim’s family.
Police and WorkSafe New Zealand investigations into the incident are continuing and Fire investigators are conducting a scene examination today.
