Police continue to make enquiries following the death of a man on Mount Lancelot, Arthur’s Pass.
The man, who was tramping with two friends, arrived at Crow Hut about mid-morning on Saturday.
The trio decided to climb Mt Lancelot and set off along Jellicoe Ridge toward Mount Guinevere, but became separated when one pushed forward and another lagged behind.
A personal locator beacon was set off about 7.20pm when the man failed to return to Crow Hut.
Searchers located his body about 2km north of the hut about 3.20pm yesterday.
While cause of death will be determined by the Coroner, the man appears to have taken a fall.
Weather is not thought to have been a factor.
The man’s name will be released once next-of-kin notifications have been completed.
