Update - Porirua incident

1 min read

Police can confirm the situation on the cordon in Porirua remains unchanged this morning.

Police deployed a variety of tactical options overnight, including the deployment of gas canisters into a house on Kokiri Crescent.

There have been a number of reports of loud bangs and gunshots. Police can confirm that no shots have been fired and that the noises heard were from the deployment of the gas canisters into the house.

Police remain focussed on negotiating with an individual who is inside the Kokiri Crescent house.

Police are hugely grateful to the Marae who have hosted local residents overnight due to the unsafe situation.

The officer injured after jumping to safety from a second story window during the original incident remains in a stable condition in hospital and is receiving medical treatment. He and his family are also being supported by his Police colleagues.
