Police are continuing to investigate the cause of a fatal crash in Papatoetoe early this morning where a car has driven into a shop on Portage Road.
Investigators are still at the scene and expect to be finished later today at which time the road will be reopened.
The body of the deceased has been removed from the scene, and formal identification procedures will now take place.
It is too early at this stage in the investigation to speculate on what may have caused the crash.
The vehicle was a red ford falcon, and Police ask anyone who may have seen the vehicle in the Papatoetoe area between 4 and 4:30am to contact Constable Glen Carlyle on 09 261 1300.
There is unlikely to be any further update today.
