Update – robbery and theft investigations in Dunedin

1 min read

Police in Dunedin are continuing to investigate a theft at the Stadium Dairy on Sunday 15 July and the robbery of the Elgin Food Mart last night (Monday 16 July 2018).

At this stage Police cannot rule out that the two offences are linked and are considering that possibility as part of their investigation.

A vehicle that was used in a petrol drive-off on Sunday from a service station in Dunedin was located abandoned on a road near Milton today.

Police have not connected this vehicle to the two offences but a red vehicle was seen by witnesses in the vicinity at the time these occurred.

“Being the victim of a robbery is an extremely traumatic experience. It is important that those unfortunate enough to experience this type of offence follow the instructions of the offenders and do not confront them," says Detective Sergeant Dylan Ross, the officer in charge of the investigations.

“No amount of property is worth putting yourself at risk of injury. The property is what they want. And that can be replaced,” he says.

A team of 12 investigators continues to work on these matters.

“We are interested to hear from anybody who may be aware of people offering tobacco products for sales,” says Detective Sergeant Ross.

If anyone can help us with our enquiries, please call Dunedin Central Police Station on 03 471 4800, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
