1 min read

Waitemata Police is appealing for sightings of two women who were seen by several members of the public to be deliberately jumping out in front of traffic, which later caused a crash.

Around 8.20pm last night (Thursday 25 July) the women jumped into the path of cars travelling north on State Highway 1, outside Sheepworld, 4 kilometres north of Warkworth.

The driver of a car travelling north was forced to take evasive action and crossed over the centre line, crashing into a car travelling in the opposite direction.

Seven people were taken to Auckland City Hospital; two people remain there this morning with moderate injuries.

"The women were also seen around the Northcote Road motorway on-ramp in North Shore at approximately 5.30pm. Police also have sightings of them near Constellation Drive, and walking on the motorway near Silverdale. They may have hitchhiked their way north" says Sergeant Blair Atkinson, Serious Crash Unit, Waitemata Police.

They are described as the following:

-Aged in their late 20's.
-One wearing a pink top, possibly a hoody.
-One wearing dark clothing, dark hoody.
-Possibly Maori or Polynesian
-Carrying bags (backpack)

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have given the women a ride, or can provide further information. Please phone the Waitemata District Serious Crash Unit on 09 481 0780 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
