Significant assistance from the public along with tenacious investigation work has enabled Kapiti Mana Police to arrest two violent offenders overnight.
A 41 year old Palmerston North man was arrested in Central Wellington at around midnight last night. He is due to appear in the Wellington District Court this morning charged with wounding with intent to cause GBH.
“This was a particularly nasty, unprovoked attack on an innocent member of the public. I will sleep better knowing this dangerous man has been swifty apprehended, and is no longer a threat to the public’s safety,” said Detective Sergeant Grant Ferguson of Kapiti Mana CIB.
Mr Ferguson also acknowledged the crucial assistance received from the public, and the “dogged” tenacity of the investigators in apprehending the man.
In another incident, a 23 year old female was arrested at around 7am this morning, in relation to a stabbing in Porirua, that also occurred last Tuesday morning.
She has been charged with wounding with intent to cause GBH, and will appear in the Porirua District Court this morning.
The victim from this incident remains in hospital with serious injuries.
“As police, we aim to provide a high level of service to our communities, and to make our community members feel safe. We value the trust the public have in the police, and it is that trust that motivates them to come forward and assist the police when called upon, as evidenced in these two incidents,” Mr Ferguson said.
