Two men have been arrested and charged with burglary following a break-in at a residential property in Napier early this morning.
The break-in was reported to Police by a male occupant of the house shortly after midnight.
After hearing intruders in his home, the man left the property and called Police from a nearby location. He also made a neighbour aware of the break-in, and that neighbour followed the intruders from the man’s house to another Napier address and then informed Police of their location.
Police recovered a number of electronic items that had been taken during the break-in, and arrested two men and charged them with burglary.
“This is a great example of the community being ‘eyes and ears’ for the Police. Thanks to the quick-thinking of both the victim and his neighbour, Police were able to quickly identify those responsible and recover the stolen property,” says Senior Sergeant Mike Stevenson.
The two men will appear in Napier District Court on Wednesday 14 September.
