South Otago Police executed two search warrants in Balclutha this morning, in relation to the alleged supply of methamphetamine in the area.
The search warrants were executed by local Police, with the assistance of staff from Dunedin and the CIB.
The search warrants were executed without incident resulting in two arrests, and several items of interest being located, including drugs, drugs paraphernalia and components of a firearm.
Two men, both aged 23, are due to appear in Dunedin District Court this afternoon on various drug related charges.
The supply of meth in the rural communities is a serious concern to Police and it is always a good result to be able to disrupt the supply, and hold people accountable for it.
It is a highly addictive and is a detrimental drug, even in small communities. It causes extreme harm to users, and their families and whanau.
To us, being able to act upon good information reinforces why we do what we do, as it ensures that we can keep our towns and our young people safe.
Police encourage any members of the public to report any suspicious activity to their local Police, or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Police also want to remind the community there are services that can assist with drug addiction, and we encourage anyone who wants to get help to get in touch with them.
