Christchurch Police have arrested two burglars and are seeking several others after intruders were disturbed during separate daytime burglaries yesterday [Wednesday 11 September].
Two male youths, aged 15 and 16, were arrested in Barrington Park after breaking into a property in Spreydon.
Detective Senior Sergeant Corrie Parnell says the pair had broken in to a house in Sugden Street at around 11.30am yesterday. They were seen inside the dwelling by a neighbour who alerted police.
The pair had left the property when police arrived but were located and arrested a short time later in Barrington Park.
Both youths appeared in court today facing charges of burglary and possession of instruments for burglary. They have been remanded in custody to reappear in the Youth Court; the 15-year old will appear tomorrow, and the 16-year old on 24 September.
In a separate incident, just before 11am yesterday the female occupant of a house in Trist Place, Edgeware, discovered a man climbing in through a window that had been forced open.
The offender immediately ran off, jumping over the back fence of the property, and making off on Whitmore Street south towards Bealey Avenue.
He is described as a Caucasian of very skinny build, wearing a long-sleeved shirt, grey hoodie, blue jeans and dirty white sandshoes with yellow markings.
Police say nothing was taken during the incident.
At around 4.15pm a woman in her 50s was asleep at her home in Mackworth Street, Woolston, after working a night shift, when she was woken by the sound of breaking glass.
She found the front door window smashed and a man inside the front hallway of the house.
The man apologised and fled the property, along with two other men who were standing in the driveway. They were last seen walking south on Mackworth Street towards Ferry Road.
Police say the three men all appeared intoxicated.
The intruder is described as a Caucasian, aged in his 30s, with shoulder- length light brown hair, wearing green shorts and a grey t-shirt.
The two men in the driveway are both described as Maori, approximately 30 years old. One had long black hair, and wore grey track pants, a black jacket, black cap with a white Nike logo and a backpack. The other was wearing black jeans, black jersey and a black cap.
Detective Senior Sergeant Parnell says the Edgeware and Woolston incidents are not thought to be connected.
