At about 1150am this morning Clutha and Dunedin emergency services were called to a report of an overturned boat in the Taieri Mouth area.
The boat was initially reported as 900 metres out from the bar in open water with 2 persons in the water.
The Otago Rescue Helicopter, Brighton Surf Lifesaving Club IRB were responded to assist.
As the event developed the location changed to being inside the bar area and whilst rescue service were arriving the 2 persons were able to make it to shore. Attempts to recover the boat are being assisted by a local fishing vessel.
Both persons on board the boat were wearing life jackets and had forms of communications.
