Summer is always a high point for music lovers, with festivals, big-ticket stadium gigs and outdoor concerts galore.
Sadly there are people out there who seek to use these events as an opportunity to make a quick buck by scamming people looking for tickets.
The types of scams vary – the tickets could be fake, you might pay cash but never receive a ticket, or the ticket may differ from what you thought you were buying.
Police are currently investigating multiple reports of one particular scam, where tickets are offered for sale on Facebook. The buyer pays into an online account, but the tickets are not sent – and the Facebook profile of the seller is deleted.
Netsafe has some excellent advice on how to avoid falling victim to these types of scams: https://www.netsafe.org.nz/event-ticket-scams/
Remember, don’t buy goods like tickets from anyone who you are unsure about. Never pay money into another account without verifying who the account belongs too. And lastly – if an offer seems too good to be true, it probably is.
