Stabbing, Manurewa - update

Counties Manukau Police have arrested one man following an incident in Alfriston Road, Manurewa this morning at 1am.  The 18 year old has been charged with wounding with intent to cause greivous bodily harm.

 

The 19 year old male victim received a stab wound to the neck and is still in a critical condition in hospital having already undergone emergency surgery.

 

The victim and suspect were walking in separate groups along Alfriston Road, and an altercation between the two groups ensued.  No other person was injured.

 

The suspect and three others left the scene and were soon after located by a patrolling Police unit in a car outside a residence a short distance away.  

 

Enquiries to date have not determined if the two groups were known to each other prior to the altercation.  At this stage the incident is not considered to be gang-related.

 

The victim suffered a substantial loss of blood at the scene and received emergency first-aid by attending Police and ambulance officers before being rushed to hospital.

 

Police and forensic staff are currently working at the scene enquiries are continuing.  At this stage Alfriston Road is still closed.

 

Police are asking for residents of surrounding areas specifically those between Claude Road and Shifnall Drive and on Shifnall Drive to check their properties for any discarded knives.
