Southland Area Commander Inspector Lane Todd has been appointed to the position of Canterbury Metro Commander at the rank of Superintendent.
In announcing the appointment, Canterbury District Commander, Superintendent Gary Knowles says:
"We are looking forward to Superintendent Todd joining the Canterbury team. He is a proven leader and brings with him a wealth of experience from working in different roles in New Zealand Police. In Canterbury we embrace the national Prevention First Strategy in all our business as usual and focussed operations. Superintendent Todd shares this passion and as Canterbury Metro Commander, will be leading our dedicated and talented teams located in the City and in the rural areas of Waimakariri and Hurunui to the north."
Born in Invercargill, Superintendent Todd joined New Zealand Police in 1990. He has a broad mix of rural and urban policing experience, including stints in Oamaru, time in a sole-charge position at Ranfurly and as officer in charge of the Clutha sub-area.
Prior to serving as Area Commander Southland Superintendent Todd served as Southern District Police's operations manager, and also had responsibility for professional standards.
In his role as area commander Superintendent Todd has taken responsibility for guiding Southland through significant change to align the area's focus to the police's national Prevention First strategy.
Southern District Commander, Superintendent Andrew Coster says that Superintendent Todd has provided capable and steady leadership through a period of substantial change.
“Superintendent Todd leaves the Southland policing area in very good shape having achieved some excellent results around the prevention of crime and crashes. He will be missed by the district and his team in Southland. However, he leaves behind a capable team and will certainly add value in his new role.”
Superintendent Todd says he feels privileged to be selected for his new role but greatly appreciative of the support he has received in his Southland role from the police team and the Southland community.
"I have been honoured to serve as the Southland Area Commander with a motivated and passionate team. The last four years of sustained crime reductions have made our communities safer and are testament to the great efforts of both Southland Police and our community partners. I will miss working in Southland, but am also looking forward to new challenges in Canterbury."
Superintendent Todd will take up his new role in early March.
