The woman who died after allegedly being attacked in Shore Rd, Remuera yesterday morning, was 41 year-old mother of two, Joanne Marie Pert of central Auckland.
Joanne's family was advised of her death late last evening and some of them have travelled to Auckland today where they were met a short while ago by Detective Inspector Kevin Hooper and staff from the homicide investigation team.
The 24 year-old murder accused appeared in the Auckland District Court today and was remanded in custody to appear again on January 27. He was ordered to undergo a psychiatric assessment and was granted interim name suppression.
Detective Inspector Hooper says the Operation Solitaire homicide investigation team has much work to do piecing together the events leading up to and following Joanne's tragic death yesterday.
"Our sympathies are obviously with Joanne's family and friends and we are committed to making every effort to ensure a robust prosecution is achieved.
"Staff were back at the Shore Rd scene earlier today and others are carrying out background inquiries into the accused. Several other inquiries will take weeks to complete.
"We are relieved that we are able to reassure members of the community that the alleged offender acted alone and is remanded in custody."
The occupants of the property where Joanne was found have returned to their home.
