SH1 Timaru-Pareora Highway reopens following serious crash

Canterbury Police can confirm that SH1 reopened at around 4.30pm this afternoon following a serious crash involving a white Ford Telstar station wagon and a truck and trailer unit at approximately 11.45am this morning (19 February 2015).

Witnesses report that the south-bound Telstar and has crossed the centre line and collided head on with a north-bound truck and trailer unit.  The 59 year old man local man who was driving the truck was not injured.  However the 62 year old local man driving the Telstar was trapped for approximately 40 minutes and remains in Timaru Hospital in a stable condition with moderate/serious injuries to his legs.

Canterbury Police Serious Crash Unit have undertaken a full scene examination.

Police investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.

Canterbury Police would like to thank the public for their patience while diversions were in place and the scene was cleared.

No further comment will be made at this time.
