Emergency services are at the scene of a serious crash on State Highway 1 near Waipu, which occurred shortly before 9am.
The crash involves a truck and a car and we understand there are serious injuries, however we are unable to confirm the nature of these injuries at this stage.
Southbound traffic is being diverted through Nova Scotia Drive and northbound traffic is being diverted through The Braigh.
The Serious Crash Unit and the Commercial Vehicle Safety Team have been advised.
Northland Police advise motorists to avoid the area if possible and also urge motorists to take care with the adverse weather conditions.
