Pursuit in Takapuna overnight

1 min read

At around 12.20am this morning a Police car with two officers were patrolling along Hustmere Road.

The Police unit passed a Subaru vehicle that was travelling in the opposite direction and appeared to be driving erractically.

The officers turned around and attempted to follow the car, however the vehicle had gone through the roundabout at Anzac and Hurstmere Road and Police lost sight of it. A short time later it was spotted near the Milford Town Centre . Police activated their lights and sirens, however the driver of the vehicle failed to stop.

Moments later, the vehicle crashed into a pole at the intersection of Wairau and Shakespeare Roads.

The officers gave immediate first aid to the three males in the car.

The driver of the fleeing vehicle is 15 years old and is in Auckland Hospital with minor injuries.

The front seat passenger is also 15 years old and he is in Auckland Hospital in a critical condition.

The back seat passenger is 13 years old and is in Starship Hospital with moderate injuries.

The crashed Subaru vehicle was stolen from a Devonport address overnight.

The two 15 year-olds are from Mt Roskill. The 13 year-old is from Westmere. Their next of kin are with them at hospital.

Inspector Shanan Gray, North Shore Area Commander says a number of investigations are underway; "The scene has been examined by the Waitemata Serious Crash Unit, the CIB are also investigating and as is standard procedure, we've notified the IPCA."

"No Police officer wants a fleeing driver incident to end this way. These types of incidents are fast-moving and unpredictable and anyone who choses to flee from Police in this way not only puts themselves, but also the public at risk."
