At approximately 10:30 this morning, Wellington District Police commenced pursuit of a vehicle after the driver failed to stop at the bottom of the Ngauranga Gorge.
Initially spotted by Road Policing staff in Plimmerton, the driver fled down SH1 towards Wellington then exited on to SH2 towards the Hutt Valley.
The pursuit was brought to a safe end with the use of road spikes just before the Haywards Hill lights on SH2.
One male, with existing warrants for his arrest in Manawatu, is now in custody.
Four firearms, one of which was loaded, were located inside the vehicle.
