A duo’s plans took an unexpected turn in Mount Eden in the late hours of Wednesday evening.
Auckland City West Area Prevention Manager, Inspector Wayne Kitcher, says Police observed a vehicle with a broken quarter light travelling on Dominion Road just before midnight.
“Further enquiries established the vehicle had been reported as stolen.
“Police monitored the vehicle from a distance while Eagle responded to the area,” he says.
The vehicle was located abandoned a short time later outside an address on Kenneth Avenue in Sandringham.
Delta, the Police Dog Unit, also responded to the incident and assisted to locate those involved.
Inspector Kitcher says two males were taken into custody without further incident.
“A 15-year-old male has since been charged in relation to this incident and is due to appear in the Auckland Youth Court today.
“The second male, also aged 15, has been referred to Youth Aid.”
Inspector Kitcher says Police wanted to acknowledge the member of the community who reported their vehicle as stolen in a timely manner.
“I also commend our staff whose keen spotting of the broken quarter light window led us to these arrests.
“We hope the public can be reassured with have no tolerance for this unacceptable behaviour in our communities.”
