Police are appealing for witness information as a serious crash investigation continues into a triple fatality in Dargaville, Northland.
On Monday night, three people were killed in a car crash as they travelled east along Baylys Coast Rd around 6.40pm.
Eight people, including the three victims, were in a late model dark blue Mitsubishi Triton ute when it left Baylys Coast Rd on a right hand bend and hit a large tree around 6.40pm. The group was travelling home from Baylys Beach.
The male driver and rear seat right side female passenger received minor injuries, while the two males riding on the ute tray were thrown from the vehicle at point of impact with the tree. Both males were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
“We’re very interested in hearing from anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who may have stopped to help injured passengers. We’re also keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a person walking from the scene of the crash,” says Northland Road Policing Manager Inspector Wayne Ewers.
“We have information suggesting the ute may have been driving dangerously on Baylys Beach prior to the crash, and passengers were seen riding in the back tray of the ute on the beach. Again, if anyone saw this we’re keen to hear from them,” says Insp Ewers.
Witnesses can contact Constable Reuben Cohen at Dargaville Police Station on 09 439 3400 or information can be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
