Officers working on Operation Shakespeare, the homicide investigation into the murder of Lee Rata, are appealing for sightings of a silver 1994 Nissan Primera car registration number YD7680.
Mr Rata died in Whangarei Hospital on New Year’s Day from injuries received after an assault in Kaitaia on New Year’s Eve.
The assault happened in Bonnett Road, Kaitaia, around 11pm.
“We have been receiving great assistance from the public and the investigation is progressing," said Detective Inspector Kevin Burke.
"This is a vehicle of interest and we want to hear from anyone who saw this vehicle between Thursday December 31 and Sunday January 3, in the Kaitaia or Moerewa area”.
