Waitemata Police are asking for public assistance to locate a person alleged to have been involved with a serious assault in Te Atatu Peninsula on Tuesday morning.
At around 8.30am on Tuesday morning, a man was assaulted with a hammer at a property in Te Atatu Peninsula. He was hit several times around the head with a hammer. The attacker then fled.
A number of Police units and the Eagle Helicopter were deployed immediately, however the alleged offender was not found.
The victim was taken to hospital in a serious condition. His injuries included a fractured jaw.
Police want to speak to 32 year-old Renata Tangitu Panui in relation to this assault. Panui has previously lived in the Te Atatu area. There is a warrant for his arrest for failing to appear in the Waitakere District Court in relation to serious family violence matters.
He is considered to be dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone who sees him or knows where he is should call 111 immediately.
Police would like to reassure the community that the assault is not believed to have been random, and the victim was known to the alleged offender.
