Police seek information on the assault of a tourist in Northland

Police are seeking information in relation to the assault of a German tourist in Northland last week.

About 6pm on the Thursday November 13 a 48-year-old male German tourist was taken to the Waipu Medical Centre with serious head and facial injuries. He was dropped off at the medical centre by a member of the public.

It is believed that the injured man has been riding around Northland and had been camping in the Waipu area prior to the assault. The victim is still recovering in Whangarei Hospital.
Police would like to speak with the member of the public who took the man to the Waipu Medical Centre.

Police are also appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the assault or has knowledge of what occurred to come forward and contact the Whangarei Police. Police would also like to hear from anyone who has located any discarded items of property that may belong to the victim.

At this stage the victim’s tent, bicycle and belongings are still outstanding.
