Counties Manukau Police are asking members of the public to be on the lookout for property which may be stolen following a commercial burglary that occurred overnight on Monday 1 December.
A large quantity of clothing was stolen from a pop-up store in Cavendish Drive, Manukau, including more than $40,000 worth of NRL branded products.
Detective Sergeant Cushla O’Shea of the Counties Manukau West Tactical Crime Unit believes the offenders will be trying to sell the items.
“A large amount of property has been stolen and it is likely that the offenders will attempt to sell it. We advise anyone who sees any NRL apparel for sale outside of an official retailer to proceed with caution, as any items sold at a heavily discounted price (particularly via social network sites, online auction sites, market or street sales) could be stolen.
“We are interested to hear from anyone who may have seen someone selling these kinds of items as it will assist us to track down the people responsible for this burglary.”
Branded items from the 16 NRL teams were stolen including 200 zip-up hooded sweatshirts, 200 pairs of shorts and 100 flat-peak caps, as well as sports singlets, track pants, jackets and fleece jackets.
The vehicle used in the burglary was a blue 2001 Nissan Liberty stationwagon with the registration number FUS15 (similar to pictured).
“This vehicle had been stolen from Mt Eden earlier that night and has not yet been recovered,” says Detective Sergeant O’Shea. “We are also interested in hearing from anyone who may have seen this vehicle in the past two weeks.”
"We advise everyone to remember that if you're approached with a deal that sounds too good to be true, it probably is. To knowingly receive stolen goods is a crime and we urge people with information to come forward. With help from the public, we can reduce property crime by targeting known receivers and the trade of stolen goods."
Information on the whereabouts of the stolen vehicle, the burglary or the stolen apparel should contact Detective Sergeant O'Shea on 09 213 9454. Information can be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
