Police are working with Search and Rescue to locate a 58-year-old man suffering from dementia.
The man's car has been found on State Highway 29 on the Te Kuiti side of the Kaimai Ranges.
The man is Caucasian, around 6 foot 1, of solid build, with olive skin.
He is balding, with very short salt and pepper hair.
He is believed to be wearing shorts, a t-shirt and walking shoes.
Police would like to hear from anyone who has seen or picked up a hitchhiker fitting this description, or who has seen a man fitting this description who looks out of place.
