There's no doubting the loyalty of front counter staff in Hamilton this weekend

Enjoy the game, enjoy the after-match and ensure you're able to enjoy the replay the next day is the message from Waikato Police on the eve of the Chiefs defending their Super 15 title.

A day out from the big game District Prevention Manager, Inspector Paul Carpenter, said Police were urging visitors and locals alike to think ahead about how they planned to celebrate or even commiserate tomorrow night.

"Police will be out in force on the roads, at the ground and on City streets together with our partners; the Maori Wardens, City Council City Safe staff and Community Patrols to ensure everyone has a enjoyable and safe night.

"Last week staff policing the semi-final reported a well behaved crowd and there were no arrests and only three evictions and reports from town later in the evening described a well behaved crowd."

Mr Carpenter said such reports came as no surprise given Hamilton's reputation as the events capital of the counry.

"Over recent years we've hosted the Lions, the Welsh, the V8 Supercars and Rugby and Rowing world cups not to mention last year's Super 15 final to name but a few so Police, the council and those in the hospitality industry have had plenty of practice.

"We're not expecting any trouble but with additional staffing available with our new rostering to demand model people should know that we have more than enough staff to deal with any issues at the game, in the CBD or elsewhere as we maintain a business as usual aprroach."

And while Police and their partners will be easily to locate in their hi-vis clothing the Hamilton Police Station's front counter has adopted a far more parochial stance with a red, yellow and black colour scheme.

"The Chiefs have been great supporters of Police with such things as Bluelight programme and last year's Safe as Houses initiative so our staff wanted to show their support of the team.

"The response from the public to the Chiefs posters, banners, balloons and front counter staff in Chiefs gear has been really positive and helped make visits to the front counter a little bit more of an enjoyable experience."
