Police response to today’s IPCA reports

1 min read

Today’s IPCA reports into the tragic deaths of three teenagers in two separate fleeing driver incidents finds that officers were justified in commencing a pursuit and complied with law and police policy during each situation.

“Both of these tragic outcomes could have been avoided had each driver stopped when requested to by police," says National Road Policing Manager, Superintendent Steve Greally.

“There is no infringement notice or conviction that is worth the loss of lives we’ve seen in these two incidents.

“We must also remember the impact these tragedies have on families, friends and the wider community.

“Fleeing driver situations are often complex and require our staff to make difficult decisions in rapidly evolving circumstances.

“In both these situations, the IPCA finds Police staff have made the appropriate actions,  however this is still a tragic outcome for everyone who was involved."
