Police response on tea pot tape investigation

1 min read

Attribute to a police spokesperson:

Mr Winston Peters' name came up in the police "tea pot tape" inquiry due to the public statements he'd made at the time about knowledge of the contents of the tape.

However Mr Peters' telephone records were not accessed nor was there any application for a warrant to access his telephone records.

The Prime Minister was the complainant in this case. As is normal practice the complainant was kept updated on the inquiry. In this instance this was done through the Prime Minister's office.
