Jandals worn by offender in Glendene Reserve attack

Police investigating the sexually-motivated assault of a 6 year-old girl in the Glendene Reserve last night have released a photograph of the footwear left at the scene.

The six-year old girl was grabbed by a man, taken into the reserve and assaulted. Her screams alerted her mother, who ran to her location, causing him to release the girl and run off into the reserve.

The offender is described as a young man of skinny build, with dark skin, possibly of mixed race. He is believed to have been wearing a dark coloured t-shirt.

The white jandals in the attached picture were left at the scene as the offender fled into the reserve.

They have the "JayJays" logo written on the bottom and are a size medium. "JayJays" is also written in white inscription as part of the sole.

"The jandals appear to be reasonably new, one of the manufacturers labels is still stuck on the left foot and hasn't come off yet. It's possible that someone has given them to a family member or friend for Christmas. If anyone recognises them please contact us - this crime is very concerning and we want to speak to this man as soon as possible. Anyone who has a friend, flatmate or family member who returned home last night at around 9pm with wet clothing and no footwear is also urged to contact Police" says Det Sgt Peter Litherland, Waitakere Police.

No further updates are expected this evening.
