Police make arrests in bakery burglary

1 min read

Police have arrested a 54-year-old man following a burglary at a bakery in Greymouth.

Between 10pm 26 October and 6am 27 October, the bakery was broken into and a 300 kilogram safe was stolen. It is believed the offenders used heavy machinery to uplift the safe. West Coast Police executed search warrants on an address in Greymouth on 13 November and recovered the safe.

The man was subsequently arrested and will appear in Greymouth District Court today, 14 November, on burglary charges and unrelated drug offences.

Police believe another offender may have been involved and are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity or heard any loud machinery operating overnight on 26 -27 October in the Cobden area to contact Greymouth Police on (03) 768 2628, or call Crime Stoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Police would like to remind the public that recording serial numbers of items of property helps Police to recover them if they are ever stolen.
