Police lay charges in relation to hit and run

Canterbury Police would like to thank the public for their help in locating the driver involved in a hit and run on Selwyn Road just before 6.45am this morning which has left a motorcyclist with serious injuries.

The driver, a 44 year old man, has been charged with Careless Use Causing Injury, Failing To Stop To Ascertain Injury and Driving While Disqualified.  He has also been issued with infringement notices for using an unlicensed vehicle and no warrant of fitness.  He will appear in Christchurch District Court at a later date.

The motorbike rider is reported to be in a stable condition in Christchurch Hospital.  He has a broken sternum and is currently undergoing reconstructive surgery on a badly broken wrist.  

Police investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing. 

Police ask anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Christchurch police on (03) 363 7400.  Alternatively information can also be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
