Following the arrest of an offender for a sexual assault on a woman in Te Rapa on Tuesday, Hamilton Police are appealing to the public for information in relation to the incident.
Detective sergeant Will Loughrin of the Hamilton CIB said detectives began investigating an incident following an attack on a woman as she walked home in Te Rapa.
"As a result, this morning Police arrested a 23-year-old man in Rotokauri and he will be appearing in the Hamilton District Court later today charged with sexual violation by way of rape and two counts of unlawful sexual connection.
"Though we have made an arrest our investigation is far from finished and we are currently seeking from the public any information they may have on a metallic green and grey Mitsubishi RVR vehicle parked on the wrong side of the street on Mahana Rd between 5.15 and 5.45pm on Tuesday evening."
Mr Loughrin said Police are also keen to speak to anyone who recalls seeing a woman walking in the area of the grass walkway running from Mahana Rd adjacent to the large Wananga Aotearoa building around the same time.
"We are also particularly keen to hear from anyone who noticed a light skinned Polynesian or Maori male of solid build about 180cm tall in that area or by the vehicle Police are seeking information about."
Mr Loughrin said anyone with any information on the incident is asked to contact him on 021 1902963.
Alternatively information can be left anonymously with the independent Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
