Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident in Ponsonby where two men were wounded following an altercation outside a bar.
Detective Senior Sergeant Glenn Baldwin says at about 1.40am on Sunday, 18 November, a group had been socialising at a bar on Mackelvie Street.
Outside the bar, two of the men got into a verbal exchange with two offenders who were unknown to them.
Detective Senior Sergeant Baldwin says the two offenders have tried to provoke the victims into a fight.
Both victims have tried to defuse the situation and walk away. However, one of the offenders then punched one of the victims.
The second offender went to a nearby car and retrieved two knives.
He then attacked both victims.
The first offender is described as a male, believed to be of Pacific Island origin, heavy built and aged between 20 and 35.
He was wearing a red t-shirt and had long hair, possibly with braids.
The second offender is also described as a male, believed to be of Pacific Island origin, heavy build and aged between 20 and 35. He was wearing a black t-shirt.
As a result of this incident, one of the victims, a 21-year-old male, received a number of lacerations to his face and head area.
Another man was cut across the back of his hand.
Both victims were taken to Auckland City Hospital.
Detective Senior Sergeant Baldwin says one of the victim’s injuries were serious, but not life threatening.
“We need the community’s help to solve this unprovoked, senseless and unnecessary attack.
“We want to hear from anyone who might have been in the area at the time of this incident.
"Someone will know who these men are and they need to do the right thing and contact us.
“We would remind everyone that anyone found to be carrying a knife or any weapon is breaking the law and could face prosecution.”
