Canterbury Police are investigating an assault involving two prisoners at Christchurch Men's Prison that occurred at around 9am this morning.
Detective Elliot Western says one person has been taken to Christchurch Hospital where they are being treated for serious injuries.
The other person has yet to be formally interviewed by Police.
Police will not be making any further comment at this time due to the sensitive nature of the ongoing investigation.
